A year has passed since an employee was killed by a youth named Jamaal at the juvenile facility where Rachael Mangum is an administrator. Rachael, still struggling with the concept of forgiving Jamaal, finds she needs his help to ensure the safety of the current facility youth. As she gets caught up in the fight to keep gang politics out of the juvenile facility, Rachael herself faces evil once again. Rachael’s relationship with Jamaal continues to evolve as she explores the definition of “family.” Jamaal and others in the novel must decide on who they will choose to be theirs. Will it be the gang, biological family, or someone else in their life?
